Job Description

Summary:

As part of the Rediscovery Team, the Junior Guide will assist the Camp Supervisor and Senior Guides in delivering the Rediscovery Program, ensuring that participants engage with the program in a safe, enriching, and culturally grounded environment. You will be responsible for helping implement the daily schedule, facilitating workshops, supervising and engaging with camp participants daily, and contributing to the overall success of camp operations.

Fixed-term seasonal contract, 3 months per year (June 1 to August 31,2025)

Compensation:

In Camp: $200 per day

In Town: $20.00 per hour

Location:

Primary Camp: T’aalan Stl’ang (Lepas Bay)

Administrative Work: Old Massett

Responsible to:

Rediscovery T’aalan Stl’ang Haida Gwaii Society Executive Director and Camp Supervisor.


Key Duties And Responsibilities:

  • Help coordinate and implement the Rediscovery program schedule.
  • Assist in the facilitation of workshops and group activities.
  • Supervise camp participants to ensure engagement and safety.
  • Collaborate with senior staff to plan and execute camp activities.
  • Ensure all activities comply with established Camp Safety Standards.
  • Actively participate in and contribute to daily team meetings.
  • Adhere to and uphold Rediscovery Policies and Procedures.
  • Exhibit strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Exercise sound judgment in interactions with staff and participants.
  • Foster a positive and collaborative environment for camp operations.
  • Demonstrate initiative and promote teamwork to achieve program goals.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.


Qualifications:

  • Experience and knowledge of outdoor recreational activities such as camping, hiking, and group sports.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the natural and cultural history of Haida Gwaii, beginner Xaad Kil, Haida song and dance and/or willingness to learn.
  • Knowledge and/or experience at T’aalan Stl’ang formerly known as Lepas Bay and the surrounding area.
  • Has healthy coping mechanisms and wellness plan for time in camp.
  • Sound personnel practices and organizational development.
  • Strong communication skills and a positive attitude.


Conditions of Employment:

  • Cleared Police Information Check, including a Vulnerable Sector Check.
  • Medically cleared to perform physical duties, including lifting up to 50 lbs and completing multiday hikes across varied terrain.
  • Must be willing to work in an isolated camp setting at T’aalan Stl’ang (formerly known as Lepas Bay) for periods of up to 15 days, with a maximum duration of 20 days.
  • 1+ years of experience working with youth, preferably in a school or camp setting.
  • Up-to-date certifications in Red Cross Standard First Aid and or Wilderness Advaced First Aid (an asset)
  • Current Bronze Medallion Lifesaving certification (an asset)
  • Novice or Class 5 Driver's Licence (an asset).
  • Valid Food Safe certification (an asset).
