Job Description

POSITION: Home Support Worker

Location: Located in Skidegate, Haida Gwaii

Reporting to: Home Care Nurse

Working Conditions: In home day shifts, including both weekdays and weekends in accordance with

the home support schedule, as per the Collective Agreement.

Salary Range: Starting at $25.77 per hour

Under the direction of the Home Care Nurse the Home Support Worker is responsible for providing home care to

aid clients in their personal care and enable them to remain in the home for as long as possible.

Education, Training & Experience

 Minimum grade 12 or equivalent, with two years related experience.

 One of the following certificates are required: Home Support Worker, Personal Care, Long Term Care

Aid; or relevant training.

 Evidence of valid BC driver’s license, class 4 preferred (vehicle an asset)

 Evidence of valid first aid certificate.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

 Knowledge of Haida culture and values.

 Knowledge of the Haida culture is an asset.

 Employment with Skidegate Band Council is contingent upon your clearance of a Criminal Record

Check.

 All staff employed by Skidegate Health Centre must maintain confidentiality of all records and business

within the health centre.

 Strives to meet and exceed the national standards of accreditation.

 Actively seeks out and supports activities that promote client, staff, visitor, and contractor safety.

 Employees must abide by the Health Centre’s code of ethics.

 Evidence of involvement in relevant and ongoing training and development as per Article 34 of the

collective agreement


CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

 All staff must maintain confidentiality of all records of business within the Health Centre

 Employees must abide by the Skidegate Health Centre’s Code of Conduct

 Criminal Record Check is required
