Job Title: Community Learner
Hours: 35 hours per week for 17 weeks

Term: 17-week seasonal starting May 2025
Who we are:
The Old Massett Village Council is a community of 1500 members on Haida Gwaii and an overall membership of approximately 3200 members. We are located on the beautiful North Coast of Haida Gwaii and are stewards of 29 Reserves with various land base sizes. We have approximately 70-100 full and part-time employees. General operations are comprised of, but not limited to, Operations, Maintenance, Finance, Housing, Registry, Education, Social Development, and Economic Development.
Are you ready for an unforgettable summer filled with hands-on learning, outdoor adventure, and community connection? We’re offering four lucky community learners a fully paid and supported 17-week educational summer camp opportunity in Haida Gwaii!
What to Expect:
• Land-Based Learning: Engage in activities that connect you to our lands, rivers, culture, and environment
on Haida Gwaii, such as river fishing, food gathering and processing.
• Outdoor Adventures: Participate in hiking, foraging, and traditional ecological knowledge. Learn to
identify and propagate our traditional plants and medicines.
• Skill Development: Learn leadership, teamwork, and problem-solving.
• Community Engagement: Work alongside local mentors, scientists, and knowledge keepers to deepen
understandings of Haida Gwaii’s rich cultural history and traditions.
