Gwaii Haanas, which translates to “Islands of Beauty” in Haida, is a protected area in southern Haida Gwaii. Gwaii Haanas is a Haida Heritage Site, a National Park Reserve, a National Marine Conservation Area Reserve protected from the ocean floor to the mountain top. Gwaii Haanas is cooperatively managed by the Council of the Haida Nation and Government of Canada. The Gwaii Haanas team is comprised of year-round and seasonal employees. Roles include: field research positions, administration and finance, visitor experience, asset management, cultural resource management and much more. In the spirit and intent of the Gwaii Haanas agreement, hiring citizens of the Haida Nation is a priority.

External Relations Manager II PM-05

 

INTENTION OF PROCESS:

·      To fill one 12-month term, with possibility for extension

·      This process may also be used to fill permanent or temporary vacancies that arise at the PM-05, External Relations Manager within the Gwaii Haanas Field Unit

SALARY RANGE: $96,535.00 to $104,361.00 /per year + IPA benefits

Do you have experience leading a team of community-minded professionals? Have you developed communication strategies for complex ecological or cultural programs? Gwaii Haanas is seeking a knowledgeable, passionate, and motivated manager to lead our communications, public engagement and education outreach teams. During this time of change and opportunity, you will provide strategic advice and help shape the future of Gwaii Haanas.

 

Work Duties

1.    Lead a small and passionate team of community engagement and communication pros.

2.    Apply proven leadership skills to connect with people, manage issues and create new partnerships.

3.    Build communications partnerships that honor more than 30 years of co-management and support the work of the Council of the Haida Nation and Canada as they take care of Gwaii Haanas through the Archipelago Management Board (AMB).

 

Benefits

Due to its remote location Gwaii Haanas is categorized as an Isolated Post providing certain additional benefits:

·      Isolated Post Allowances range from approximately $10,560.00 to $17,600.00 per year based on if the employee has dependants or not.

·      Vacation Travel Assistance is provided once a year of up to $2013.16 for each eligible member of the household.

·      Travel associated with non-elective medical and dental treatment, bereavement, or compassionate leave may be eligible for reimbursement.

 

As a federal government employee, under the strategic guidance of the CHN and Canada through the AMB, you will also receive a comprehensive benefit package including an employee pension plan and health, dental and group insurance.
