Job Description

Canadian Fishing Company is looking for deckhands for vessels engaged in the transportation of fish for commercial fishing operations in the North Coast area. The eligible persons must be physically fit, able to lift 25 kg and willing to engage in physical activities:

 

  • Moving fish by hand from gillnet vessels into totes 
  • Handling empty totes
  • Shovelling ice
  • Clean up of deck area and fish hatches
  • Keeping the vessel in a clean an orderly condition

 

In this position, the deckhand(s) will live aboard the vessel while the vessel is engaged in the fishery. Trips are generally up to four days but could be shorter or longer depending on fishing opportunities provided by Fisheries and Oceans Canada. Meals and sleeping accommodations are provided on board the vessel. 

 

Compensation is on a daily basis:

 

  • Daily Rate: $343.00
  • Overtime is payable in cases where the crew has not been able to get at least six (6) hours of consecutive and unbroken rest.
  • There are supplemental wages shared by the crew for ice shovelling and fright handling if applicable:
  • Ice shoveling: $14.88 / ton (shared among the crew)
  • Freight handling: $12.28 / hr (shared among the crew)

 

We are looking for easy-going, hard-working persons who contribute in a positive way to the crew and gets along well with others. Alcohol and drugs on board the vessel is strictly prohibited.
