Job Description:


K’aayxada Adventure Camp is looking for motivated, dedicated, and enthusiastic people to be a part of our Team for our upcoming Spring Break Camps. We are holding 4 camps this Spring:


May 9 -11 Staff Orientation K’AC

May 12-18 K’AC/Gwaii Haanas Daax̱iigan Sḵ'adáa Née K-12 Grade 9’s

May 26 - June 1 K’AC/Gwaii Haanas Gidg̱alang Ḵuuyas Naay Secondary Grade 9’s

June 2 - 6 K’AC Daax̱iigan Sḵ'adáa Née K-12, Chief Matthews School Grade 6’s

June 9 - 13 K’AC Sḵ ́aadg̱aa Naay Elementary, Agnes L. Mathers Elementary, Living and Learning Grade 6’s


Employees will have a unique opportunity to work with a wonderful Staff and great Youth at the remote and beautiful facility located at Mosquito Lake G̱awu Ḵuns Siiwaay.


We are looking to fill a Counsellor Position and the tasks required are as follows:


● Work with Lead Instructors during orientation and camp weeks to learn and practice leading specific modules

● Create and lead your own modules, when ready

● Engage with students and maintain a cohesive group

● Participate in all camp programming from breakfast through closing circle each day

● Ensure students are safe and engaged in whatever activity is at hand

● Give feedback on expectations and behaviour

● Engage students in activities when there are periods of downtime

● Assist in coordinating chores and prep for activities

● Support Lead Instructors during Programming

● Model a positive attitude and engagement with module

● Assist in keeping students engaged, support students who may need assistance

● Provide consistent feedback on expectations and behaviour during programming

● Report any injuries, behavioural concerns, or disclosures to the Lead Instructor(s), according to procedures outlined in Orientation

● Assist in daily camp tasks such as chopping and stacking wood, dishes, clean up, and general maintenance of camp


Job Requirements:

1. Spoken and written English language

2. Knowledge of Xaad kil and/or Xaayda kil an asset

3. Valid WFR and WAFA certificates an asset

4. Knowledge of Haida Cultural Values an asset

5. Experience working with Youth an asset

6. A Police Information Check will be required for successful candidates


Pursuant to s. 41 of the BC Human Rights Code, preference may be given to qualified applicants of Indigenous Ancestry.


Pay Range:

$220/day

Mileage will be reimbursed.
