The Rediscovery Culture Camp located at T’aalan Stl’ang formerly known as Lepas Bay provides workshops focused on land stewardship and youth leadership, the opportunity to learn traditional food gathering and preparation techniques, Xaad Kil / Haida language immersion, as well as daily hikes and solo trips. We offer ten-day preteen (ages 10-13) sessions and teen (ages 14-18) sessions. We also host family camps. Groups range between 18-30 people.


POSITION TERM: Seasonal position for the summer of 2024

June – End of August with the possibility of extension to mid-September if needed and available.


Pay rate: $250.00 per day


JOB SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Executive Director and the Camp Supervisor, the camp cook is responsible for providing nutritious and healthy meals within the allocated budget. The cook's responsibilities are to prepare menus, determine portions, and prepare complete meals for staff and participants; assess food needs, track food inventory and order needed items; clean and maintain the kitchen, dining room, and work areas; ensure compliance with established food production and hygiene standards; all other related tasks to ensure harmony within the camp. Duties also include monitoring the quality of food, minimizing waste, and prioritizing foods that are used first, especially produce and other perishables.

Meals include breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks when needed. Responsible for purchasing all groceries and operation of kitchen facilities, making sure all appliances are in proper safe working order. Preparing meals for special diets.


· Food Safety Certification required

· Past cooking experience for groups in an off-grid wilderness setting

· Able to produce timely meals

· Proven cooking experience, including experience as a restaurant cook or prep cook

· Having the skill and ability to bake bread

· Excellent understanding of various cooking methods, ingredients, equipment, and procedures.

· Accuracy and speed in executing assigned tasks.

· Familiar with industry’s best practices

· Proven Leadership Skills

· Able to work independently and as part of a team.

· Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.

· Up-to-date certifications in Occupational First Aid and or Wilderness First Aid, Bronze Medallion Lifesaving, or CPR are assets


· Must be willing to work in the isolated camp setting at T’aalan Stl’ang formerly known as Lepas Bay for periods up to a maximum of 31 days in duration

· Must be medically and physically fit to assume the responsibilities of this position

· Must be self-motivated, a team player, and responsible

· Must be willing to pre-plan menus cooperatively and stay within an allocated budget.

· Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check

· Class 5 Drivers Licence
