Building Coordinator

FULL-TIME POSITION 

Hecate Strait Employment Development Society (HSEDS) is a non-profit organization that provides 
resources for jobseekers, newcomers, employers, and new entrepreneurs. Our mission is to serve and build

As a Building Coordinator you are responsible for independently performing a full range of building and grounds 
maintenance to ensure various HSEDS locations are maintained in a clean, orderly, and secure condition. This includes 
performing a full range of building and grounds maintenance duties as assigned while exercising judgement and 
initiative. 

Key Responsibilities:
• Routine grounds and building maintenance at multiple locations. 
• Light janitorial duties. 
• Routine building maintenance and repairs; replaces light bulbs, repairs, adjusts and replaces electrical, 
plumbing, HVAC, and related parts, components, and fixtures; removes graffiti; patches holes, and paints. 
• Arranges for repair technicians to come in, when necessary, 
• Performs grounds maintenance; shovels, salts, edges, waters, and assists with community gardens.
• Moves, arranges, picks up and distributes furniture, supplies and equipment as needed; sets up rooms, chairs, 
equipment, and tables for meetings and other events; cleans up furniture, equipment, and debris following 
events. 
• Locks and unlocks doors and gates as appropriate; turns lights on and off; sets alarms, maintains security. 
• Identifies and reports maintenance and repair needs and problems; reports vandalism and safety, sanitary and 
fire hazards to appropriate staff; responds to emergency custodial requests. 
• Sit on the organization’s Health and Safety Committee. 
• Coordinate with external contractors for necessary repairs and upgrades as needed. 
• Monitors and assists in maintaining inventory levels of building and grounds maintenance and custodial 
supplies; assists with ordering and receiving supplies. 
• Maintains routine records related to assigned activities. 
• Proactively plans for any potential maintenance issues. 
• Assists with fire alarm and equipment maintenance and drills. 
• Assists with emergency drills. 
• Other related duties as assigned.

Desired Qualifications:
• 1 year experience preferred. 
• Safely operate a wide variety of hand and power tools used in building maintenance, grounds maintenance and 
custodial work;
• Move and arrange furniture and equipment;
• Observe and report safety hazards and need for maintenance and repair;
• Understand, interpret, and apply pertinent policies, work standards and health and safety regulations;
• Maintain routine files and records;
• Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing;
• Establish, maintain, and foster positive and effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of 
work;
• Self-starter
• Strong collaborative and interpersonal skills;
• Ability to perform duties in a confidential manner with minimal supervision;
• Able to prioritize, multi-task, and complete tasks under deadlines;
• Access to a reliable vehicle and have a valid and current driver’s license;
• Satisfactory criminal record check.
