As an Employment Advisor you will work with local people to assist them to find work, change careers, start a business, or take training. You will motivate those you work with to achieve long-term career success. To succeed in this role, you need to care about people’s long-term success, have a good understanding of community resources and the local job market, be ready to coach individuals, facilitate groups, understand the needs of diverse client groups, have a great balance of people, administrative, and technical skills, and bring a passion for ongoing learning and improvement.
Responsibilities
• Direct client service for long-term employment and training planning with individuals seeking employment
• Conduct person to person interviews to identify the needs of clients, and collaborate with them to create a realistic and achievable employment action plan
• Assist clients with one-on-one coaching on resumes, job search techniques, labour market information, career planning, assessment tools, workshops, and referring clients to access other resources and community services
• Determine eligibility for various financial supports, training, and employment services
• Deliver workshops and group sessions for client groups
• Stay up to date with program policy and processes, and maintain an expert level of knowledge about the local job market
• Complete reports and ensure all required documentation is in place at all stages of service to clients
• Work collaboratively on a team that has members in Prince Rupert and Haida Gwaii, as well as other locations in Northern BC
• Act as a champion of the WorkBC program, promoting our services throughout community and events
Desired Qualifications
• A certificate or degree in a human services or related field (i.e.: Business Administration, Social Services, Community Development, Career Development, etc.) is preferable, however a combination of experience and other education will be considered
• Minimum 2 years’ experience providing career counselling, coaching, training, or other related professional experience is preferred
• Technologically literate, including with MS Office applications, databases, Outlook, and the internet
• Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of audiences in writing and in-person
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team dedicated to excellence in service, as well as independently
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to maintain confidentiality
• Experience delivering programs and services for and with Indigenous people and remote communities
• Able to work with people from all backgrounds, and understands the needs, with a desire to learn and adapt in a changing environment
Requirements
• Satisfactory criminal record check
• As this position is based on a contract with our funder, it has a term end date of March 31, 2027, or earlier if the contract ends sooner. There is also a possibility for extension beyond the term end date
