Youth Outreach Worker (Part Time)

Contract Position now – March 2021

The Youth Outreach Worker will be responsible developing relationships and engaging with youth and fostering partnerships to coordinate and deliver the Raven Tales Storytelling Revival program.  The Youth Outreach Worker will work as a key member of our team to assist our Adult Literacy Practitioner and senior staff with all aspects of Change Makers programming. This position will also assist the manager and other program staff with tasks as required and will report to the Adult Literacy Practitioner and/or the Manager.


·         Plan and coordinate meaningful programming for young adults in our community

·         Recruit, supervise and mentor youth participating in the project

·         Help maintain website, and blog and update social media accounts

·         Administration, filing, reporting, and data management

·         Coordinate storytelling, theatre and documentary filming events and activities

·         Assist in researching creative ways to offer programming during Covid 19

·         Follow procedures and maintain records

·         Participate in daily chores to maintain the cleanliness of the premises

·         Explore opportunities for funding and program development in partnership with management and Board of Directors


·         Understand and appreciate the Indigenous experience and Canada’s commitment to Truth and Reconciliation

·         Knowledge of our local First Nations cultures and history and an understanding of how these unique cultures have been impacted by colonialism

·         Ability to establish cross-cultural relationships and understanding 

·         Experience or training in literacy, education, community development, digital production, or theatre

·         Exhibit an energetic and creative spirit, ethical approach to work, and willingness to try new ideas

·         Ability to collaborate and work together as part of a team to accomplish identified goals

·         Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal; fluent in English knowledge of other languages an asset

·         Strong leadership, organizational and time-management skills

·         Ability to plan, coordinate, inspire and take initiative

·         Confident with a positive attitude and effective interpersonal skills

·         Excellent computer skills: proficient in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and Adobe Suite

·         Excellent time-management skills and ability to work under pressure

·         Must be willing to undertake a Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check as a condition of employment

Contract length: 6 months

Part-time hours: 25 per week

Expected start date: 2020-10-23
