Substance Abuse Specialist (Full Time)

The role is responsible to the Team Leader of the ACT Team. Substance Abuse Specialists are members of the Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) Team and work together to provide flexible, community based services that are designed to promote the stability, recovery and community reintegration of individuals who have a mental illness and abuse substances. The Substance Abuse Specialist maintains a caseload and in collaboration with the transdisciplinary team coordinates and provides, in a compassionate and responsible manner, assessment, crises intervention and follow-up services to clients and identified supports as required. The Substance Abuse Specialist performs all routine team responsibilities and has lead responsibility for integrating concurrent treatment with the tasks of other team members.
– Bachelor degree in an allied health discipline.
– Two (2) years recent experience working directly in addictions and/or mental health treatment, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
– Eligibility for registration with appropriate professional body.
– Equivalent combination of education and experience.Skills and Abilities:
– Ability to apply clinical and critical thinking expertise.
– Experience in the delivery of education programs.
– Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
– Effective verbal and written communication skills.
– Physical ability to perform duties of the position.
– Ability to use an electronic file system for service delivery.
– Advanced computer skills preferred.
