Kal Naay Alder House Program Support Worker

12 hour shifts – $20.50 per hour

 

The Kal Naay Alder House is seeking part time casual Program Support Workers for our new facility.  We are part of the province’s Rapid Response Housing program and we provide supportive living that includes two meals a day and assistance with life skills.

 

As a Program Support Worker, you will work as part of a team to provide a range of supports for our residents who are low-income or at risk of homelessness for a variety of reasons including lack of affordable housing, poverty, mental illness or substance use.  If you have a genuine interest in people and a deep commitment to helping vulnerable individuals, we hope that you will consider joining our team.

 

Qualifications:

  • Secondary School graduation diploma or a combination of skills and experience.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to complete required computer-based training.

 

Your ability to gain trust and build relationships with the residents will be important, as will strong problem-solving skills and a high level of patience and emotional resilience.  You should be organized, efficient and flexible with good oral and written communication skills.  Previous experience providing life skills and supportive services, as well as basic computer skills with Word, Excel and SharePoint would be an asset.

 

Program Support Workers must be able to work independently and as part of a team.  You will be expected to have a non-judgmental attitude and maintain confidentiality of all personal and private information.

 

Shifts are 7:00 am to 7:00 pm and 7:00 pm to 7:00 am, with two workers on shift in the evenings under a monthly Averaging Agreement.

 

All staff, whether part-time, full-time or volunteer, are required to have a Criminal Records Check for working with vulnerable individuals.  Certification of attendance in the following courses are required for the job, and if not already certified, the employer will provide training:

·         Working Alone Safely in BC

·         Standard First Aid

·         Indigenous Awareness

·         Domestic Violence Safety Planning

·         Staff Self-Care

·         Suicide Intervention

·         Vulnerability Assessment Tool (VAT)

·         BC Housing Database
