Náng Kúugas / CAMP COOK (Contract)




Seasonal position for the summer of 2022 Term, the beginning of July – to the end of August.

Job Summary:  Under the direction of the Camp Supervisor, the camp cook is responsible for providing nutritious and healthy meals to all camp participants. The cook’s responsibilities are; to prepare menus, determine portions, and prepare complete meals for staff and participants; assess food needs, track food inventory and order needed items; clean and maintain the kitchen, dining room, and work areas; ensure compliance with established food production and hygiene standards; all other related tasks to ensure harmony within the camp. Duties also include monitoring the quality of food, minimizing waste, and prioritizing foods that are used first, especially produce and other perishables.

Meals include breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks when needed. Responsible for purchasing foodstuff and operation of kitchen facilities, making sure all appliances are in proper safe working order. Preparing meals for special diets.


  • Food Safety Certification required
  • Up-to-date certifications in Occupational First Aid and or Wilderness First Aid, Bronze Medallion Lifesaving, or CPR are assets
  • Past cooking experience for groups in an off-grid wilderness setting
  • Proven cooking experience, including experience as a restaurant cook or prep cook
  • Having the skill and ability to bake bread
  • Excellent understanding of various cooking methods, ingredients, equipment, and procedures.
  • Accuracy and speed in executing assigned tasks.
  • Familiar with industry’s best practices
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Must be willing to work in the isolated setting of T’aalan Stl’ang for periods up to a maximum of 30 days in duration
  • Must be medically and physically fit to assume the responsibilities of this position
  • Must be self-motivated, a team player, and responsible
  • Must be willing to pre-plan menus cooperatively and stay within a set budget.
