Job Title: Housing Coordinator Assistant      Term Position: Term Contract                       Hours: 35per week

Who we are:

The Old Massett Village Council is a community of 1500 members on Haida Gwaii with an overall membership of approximately 3200 members.  We are located on the beautiful North Coast of Haida Gwaii and are the stewards of 40 Reserves with various land base sizes. We have approximately 70-100 full and part time employees. General operations are comprised of, but not limited to Operations, Maintenance, Finance, Housing, Registry, Education Social Development and Economic Development.


The Housing Coordinator Assistant provides administrative and reception support to the Housing Coordinator. The Housing Coordinator Assistant organizes all office correspondence, prepares meeting agendas, records and distributes meeting reports as per direction of Housing Coordinator. Housing Coordinator’s Assistant must be organized, patient and will need to have excellent communication skills.

Reporting Relationship:

The Housing Coordinator Assistant reports directly to the Housing Coordinator and works closely with Housing Departments and staff.


Minimum Requirements:

  • Office Administration Certificate or Diploma or 5 years of related experience
  • Grade 12 graduation and /or a minimum 5 years related work experience
  • Class 5 drivers License with clean drivers abstract

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge and understanding of Haida culture
  • Strong written and interpersonal communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a variety of people and circumstances
  • Computer skills in Microsoft applications (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Ability to establish priorities based on assigned work, requirements and timelines
  • Ability to maintain professional demeanor and confidentiality
  • Ability to work independently

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Preform general clerical duties to include, but not limited to photocopying, faxing, emailing, mailing and filing (hardcopy and digital)
  • Track and maintain housing files, take minutes at Housing Committee meetings
  • Answer and direct all phone calls and respond to emails
  • To perform other duties as appropriately assigned
  • To adhere to Old Massett Village Council Conditions of Employment and maintain Confidentiality
