Type: Part time – Monday to Friday: 4 hours per day/20 hours per week (3-month contract with possibility of extension)

Ecotrust Canada is the service provider for the Area A Crab fleet’s electronic monitoring (EM) and biological sampling programs. In addition, we provide support to fish harvesters and community organizations through our charitable programs.

2021 will be our tenth year of delivering EM programs in Area A and our ninth year of delivering biological sampling programs. Our approach is to provide an EM system comprised of software and hardware components that are affordable and effective. Key components of these programs are to work in collaboration with the Area A Crab Association, individual licence holders and the Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) to collect and deliver high quality and timely data.

Reporting Responsibilities:

The Video Data Analyst will report to the Area A Project Manager, Ecotrust Canada Fisheries and Marine Monitoring, and will work in our Prince Rupert office.

Video Analyst Duties and Responsibilities:

Video analysts are responsible for analyzing Area A Crab electronic monitoring videos in order to record fishing compliance issues by vessel per month. Videos will be reviewed using a custom online database which also serves as a data entry tool. Training in the use of this software will be provided but general computer literacy and experience in data entry is an asset. There may be other related administration duties as needed by the program.

Qualifications

  • Strong computer literacy skills, previous experience with Excel data entry, and a high comfort level working with video software are assets.
  • At-sea/river experience aboard recreational, commercial and/or food fishing vessels an asset.
  • Good time/task management, strong attention to detail, tracking and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work well under pressure; be reliable, very organized and disciplined
  • Ability to work independently with a high level of self-motivation, as well as the ability to take direction from managers and be a team player.
