Kiewit is hiring experienced Deck Winch Operators for the Fairview Expansion Project in Prince Rupert, BC. In this role, they will primarily be operating friction deck winches and set up for anchors and/or spuds.

Shift Information

  • Must be flexible to work either day or night shift
  • 20/10 rotation

Responsibilities

  • Operate friction deck winches set up for anchors and /or spuds in a smooth, controlled, and safe manner
  • Understand landing of barges, tying up barges for safe and secure operations for lifts on the water in dynamic conditions. Securing barges for off-hours in anticipation of the tide, current, and marine weather conditions
  • Work with the crane operator and foreman on deck for barge movements on anchors/spuds and coordinate with tug boats moving the vessel
  • Overall care, housekeeping, and maintenance of the crane, deck equipment, and other support barges that accompany
  • Basic cutting, fabricating, and welding
  • Maintain tools and equipment inventory on the crane barge
  • Perform fueling operations on the crane barge complying with all company and local/federal regulations for fueling over the water

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years work experience on and around boats/barges
  • Experience running winches
  • Awareness of maritime safety

Project Information
The Fairview Expansion project involves the construction of additional landmass for an extension of the southern terminal in Prince Rupert Harbour. This will include expanding the wharf structure and onshore terminal components, which will increase the facility’s capacity by 250,000 TEUs per annum.
