Under the general direction of the Heritage and Natural Resources Department (HNRD) Program Manager, the Cultural Feature Identification (CFI) Auditor is accountable and responsible for working with the HNRD Resource Management Advisor and other staff to conduct CFI Audits, CFI Surveys, effectiveness monitoring and implementation of the Haida Gwaii Land Use Objectives Order (HGLUOO). The Auditor may also be called on to participate with BC Ministry of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development (FLNRORD) Haida Gwaii Natural Resource District on the provincial Forest and Range Evaluation Program (FREP).


  • Mentor with the Lead CFI Auditor to learn processes in the field & in the office to carry out the role of an auditor for the CFI Program.
  • Conduct & train CFI survey audits.
  • Manage information for the CHN’s CFI program, including monitor the CFI report filing e-mail address and update the reports database, and participate in appeals processes where necessary.
  • Carry out effectiveness and implementation monitoring of the HGLUOO, and when requested participate in intergovernmental processes (IGPs).
  • Participate in the Integrated Stewardship Team (IST) meetings with other CHN and local FLNRORD personnel and take part in FREP monitoring and other initiatives as directed.
  • Carry out forest ecology research that supports long term sustainable forest management.
  • Participate in training and testing CFI surveyors for CHN’s inventory of the Protected Areas and surveys in Ecosystem Based Management (EBM) areas, and mentor trainees.
  • Perform other duties as directed by the HNRD Manager.


  • Have a current and valid CHN Cultural Features Identification Certificate.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software (including Access), applicable Mapping software programs (ArcGIS, Pathfinder Office), and related hardware.
  • Must be proficient in the use of Global Positioning System (GPS), field data collection.
  • Ability and experience in analyzing detailed field data.
  • Occupational First Aid Level 1 and Transportation Endorsement.
  • Demonstrated ability in report writing.
  • Class five BC Driver’s license and Current BC Driver’s Abstract.
  • Experience in working and contributing in a team workplace environment.
  • Must be medically and physically fit to assume the responsibilities of the position.
