Old Masset Village Council


Who we are:
The old Massett Village Council is a community of 1500 members on Haida Gwaii wand an overall membership
of approximately 3200 members. We are located on the beautiful North Coast of Haida Gwaii and are the
stewards of 40 Reserves with various land base sizes. We have approximately 70 -100 full and part time
employees. General operations are comprised of, but not limited to Operations, Maintenance, Finance,
Housing, Registry, Education Social Development and Economic Development.

The Home Maker provides services to community members in need, based on client needs assessment. The
Homemaker aids community member in need in a confidential and empathetic manner.
The home Maker reports directly to the Elders Center Coordinator and works closely with the Elders Center

Minimum Requirements:
• Valid Drivers Licence
• Up to date criminal record check for working with vulnerable persons
• Class 5 drivers Licence with clean drivers abstract

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Knowledge and understanding of Haida culture
• written and interpersonal communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a variety of
people and circumstances
• Ability to establish priorities based on assigned work, requirements, and timelines
• Ability to maintain professional demeanor and confidentiality
• Ability to work independently

Primary Responsibilities:
• Preform general duties to include, but not limited to sanding, salting for elders, yard and basement
cleanup, house cleaning and organizing help with traditional foods for community and maintenance of
the Elders Center and Community Gardens
• To perform other duties as appropriately assigned
• To adhere to Old Massett Village Council Conditions of Employment and maintain Confidentiality
• fostering partnerships or liaising with external health services.
