Gitmaxmak'ay Nisga'a Economic Development Corporation



The Gitmaxmak’ay Nisga’a Economic Development Corporation (GNEDC) is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Gitmaxmak’ay Nisga’a Society. The mandate of the GNEDC is to create jobs and revenues for the benefit of Nisga’a citizens living in Prince Rupert & Port Edward. The GNEDC currently operates Rupert Lawn & Garden, the Port Ed General Store, is set to acquire Bob’s on the Rocks in January 2021 and open the Yaga Café in Seal Cove in Spring 2021.


GNEDC directors are appointed by the elected Society board as volunteer advisors who meet on a quarterly basis to provide independent oversight and expertise in regard to the financial health and operational success of the Gitmaxmak’ay portfolio of ventures. Meetings are quarterly, generally once every January, April, July, and October, are 1-2 hours in duration, and a catered meal is provided. Directors are also expected to make themselves available to sign cheques as necessary.


Experience and/or education in finance, commerce and/or small business

Experience and/or education in the food and beverage industry

Experience in a corporate and or non-profit board governance capacity

The ability to analyze financial statements

Familiarity with Nisga’a culture

Society directors will be choosing up to three (3) appointees at their last regular board meeting in December 2020, with appointees expected to meet for the first time in January 2021.
