Prince Rupert, BC
Hecate Strait Employment Development
Society and Training Centre is “moving up!”
They say that out of the ashes will
come new life, and that is the approach that the Society is taking
while moving up into the second and third floors of 208 First Avenue
East. “As much as we are saddened over the loss of our neighbours,
the Ministry of Forest staff, the extra space will enable us to grow
as a Society and as a Training Centre” states Kathy Bedard,
Executive Director, “and with that growth in space, we will also
bring new programs and services.”
The Hecate Strait building will also
have some extra space that will encourage others to join in a dynamic
place to work. Where can you get a better view of the harbour or the
Sunken Gardens? It's a wonderplace to spend a workday!
The future is bright for Prince Rupert
and the region, and Hecate Strait Employment Development Society and
its training centre will be an active participant in that future.
Look for Class One/Three Driver's Training, Air Brakes and other
equipment operator certification and others in the coming months..
The Society just celebrated its 15 year
anniversary, beginning in a small office with two staff. It now
employs over 20 individuals and has a payroll of over $600,000
annually. The organization also serves as a contract community based
service provider for the Province of BC and for Service Canada, with
participants from 15 – 70 years of age.
Ms. Bedard stated that this growth
indicates the Society's committment to its mandate of “providing
employment programming and training that will enhance the lives of
the people that we serve.”
