Description

The Friendship House Association of Prince Rupert is an inclusive community organization that provides programs & services in areas of education, recreation, health and culture; and is accepting applications for a Youth at Risk (YAR) Coordinator in the Street Spirit Program.

Term: 35 hours/week-Full-time

The Youth at Risk Coordinator will work with program staff and all Friendship House Youth Coordinators, in a collaborative team environment.

Responsibilities:
Works with youth ages 15-18. To provide support in areas of education, recreation, health, and culture; with emphasis on life skills & youth leadership.
Makes appropriate referrals where necessary, with community agencies.
Provides reports and applications as required to management and funding sources.
Develops working relationships with community organizations, as approved by Executive Director.
Supervise YAR staff team.
Organize activities for youth that is meaningful, to enhance life skills, education, employment & leadership; includes event planning, fundraising with youth, assisting in creation of youth council.

Qualifications:
Experience working with the urban Aboriginal community and its members.
Solid understanding of Aboriginal health /social services issues in the region.
Must have post-secondary training in social work, Degree or diploma in Human Services preferred; or diploma in youth work, community services and/or related field of study; and possess extensive experience in supervising staff, administration, finance background, and leadership skills. Ability to maintain a healthy working relationship with clients, co-workers, supervisor, role modeling.
Strong communication, conflict resolution, and facilitation skills with individuals and groups.
Demonstrated organizational, research and reporting skills.
Proficient in MS Office, Windows 8, & Computer Skills
Valid class 5 driver’s license required;. Class 4 an asset.
Must successfully pass Criminal Record Check.
Knowledge & experience in working with potentially high risk youth.
Ability to effectively engage with youth & facilitate focus groups and forums with diverse groups
