Irwin’s Safety provides the highest standard of full cycle safety services throughout Western Canada. Management at Irwin’s Safety & Industrial Labour has extensive experience in power generation and large industrial projects, specializing in confined space, first aid, safety consulting/coordination and rescue services.

The Role: We are currently looking for High Angle Rescue Technicians with multiple years of experience. The primary responsibilities will be to work closely with all personnel on site to make sure that all hazards are identified and controls are put in place, legislation is adhered to, evacuation and emergency response procedures.   • Work with clients or contractors to provide onsite rescue services such as rope rescue, high angle rescue, and confined space rescue capabilities.
  • Educate and coach personnel and or contractors on all safety watch duties/responsibilities as per Irwin’s and client policies, code of practice(s) and procedures.
  • Evaluate and develop rescue plans for various locations and environments.
  • Prepare pre-planning for any and all possible rescue scenarios.
  • Inspect, inventory and document (on rescue equipment inspection logs) High Angle Rescue equipment (according to manufactures instructions) to ensure all equipment is ready to use.
  • Demonstrate the ability to educate and coach safety watch personnel on all safety watch duties/responsibilities as per Health and Safety policies and procedures.
  • Set up and test communications and alarm systems.
  • Ensure all gas detection and breathing apparatus equipment are inspected prior to use and pass a function test. Must have the ability to set up and dismantle both breathing air systems and gas detection equipment.
  • Lead, demonstrate and encourage a positive safety culture, where safety is an integral element to every task.
  • Be able to fill out and accurately record Hazard Assessments for work areas.
  • Must have the ability to effectively work as a team member during rescue situations and critical tasks. This includes the ability to problem solve, utilizing interpersonal skills while maintaining a level of professionalism at all times.


  • Must have 3 – 5 years’ experience in High Angle/Confined Space Rescue
  • First Aid CPR/AED Level C
  • Fall Protection certification
  • Confined Space Entry certification
  • Strong Leadership and communication skills with co-workers and clients
  • Basic computer skills
  • CSO/NCSO designation considered an asset

Schedule and Salary Expectations

  • Candidates will be required to participate in an interview upon selection.
  • Wage will be determined in accordance with skills and experience, however, a qualified candidate will be paid $27.5/hr minimum.
  • When selected, the candidate will be called to start the job based on client(s) schedule and requirement.
  • Qualified candidates will be kept in the pool of Irwin’s employees and will be called for future projects as well.
