Pile Drivers constructs, installs, repairs or removes all types of deep piles and caisson foundations and other types of marine installations: such as bridges, docks, wharves, tunnels and bulkheads. Skills required are fitting, welding, rigging, form-work and timber/ concrete construction, seamanship, heavy-duty equipment operation, and environmentally safe practices.
Pile Driver work includes the care, maintenance and setup of hammers, leads, rigs, motors, pumps and other equipment necessary to do the work of a pile driver.

• Properly follow safe work practices and procedures.
• Provide a safe environment for all employees, customers and visitors.
Operational Performance and Best Practices:
• Driving & Extraction of Piling and Pile Driving Equipment: includes sheeting and sheet piling, cofferdam and caisson work, cribbing, as well as all types of piling.
• Arc Welding and Oxy-Acetylene Torchwork.
• Welding structures, plates, beams and pipes using both stick and wire-feed methods.
• Measure materials or distances, using square, measuring tape, rule or total station to lay out work.
• Mark cutting lines on materials using pencil, soapstone, paint stick and/or scriber.
• Install temporary supports in structures undergoing construction or repair.
• Protect the environment.
• High degree of awareness of all marine and weather conditions and mobile equipment operation on barges.
• Review all safe work practices and procedures associated with the job prior to task execution.
• Carry out work in a manner that will not jeopardize own/others safety.
• Lead by example.
• Wear, and participate in the ongoing training of, the required PPE for the position/task at hand

• Industrial marine construction experience, dredging, pile driving and lift crane operations.
• Minimum of 5 years varied marine construction experience
• Small Vessel Operator Proficiency, Pleasure Craft Operator Card and CSTS-09 certificate(s).
• Marine Basic First Aid, Restricted Operator’s Certificate (Radio Operator) and MED A3 Certificate are an asset.

Job Description
• Familiar with spud and hopper barges, dredge excavators, tug boats, survey boats, marine
surveying, plan reading and project layout.
• Physically fit, with excellent stamina and the ability to perform manual labour.
• Valid driver’s license and clean driver’s abstract (per company insurance requirements).
• Working knowledge of hazards and safety precautions common to marine and construction site
• Ability to work within a team.
• Ability to communicate and take instructions from supervisor and crew via hand signals and
radio communications.
• Ability to meet attendance schedule with dependability and consistency.
• Ability to travel to jobsites and work overtime to meet the demands of the project.

• Standard 50-hour work week (10 hours per day, 5 days per week). As with many careers in
construction there are peak periods that will require overtime work as well as non-peak periods
where the standard hours of work for the week may be less than 50. The number of hours
worked each week depends on the construction site, season of the year, as well as the current
work program.
• Successful candidate must be or willing to be a member of “Pile Drivers, Divers, Bridge, Dock and
Wharf Builders Local 2404 Western Canada” Union and all employees are paid according to the
current Project Labour Agreement for standard rates as well as overtime rates.
• Operation at a construction site working outdoors, working closely with other mobile
equipment, equipment operators, construction site crews and the public.
• If qualified, supervise and train an apprentice pile driver
