PAY RATE: $27.59 BCGEU Rate Step 13P
#Hrs. Weekly: 20 hrs. Monday – Friday 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm
START DATE: As soon as possible

Program Description: PEACE Program Counsellor provides individual and group psycho-educational sessions for children/youth who experience and are affected by violence

Summary of Requirements

EDUCATION: Bachelor Degree in a related human / social service field
TRAINING & EXPERIENCE: Two (2) years recent related experience OR Equivalent combination of education, training and experience

EXPERIENCE & PROFICIENCIES:

 

  • Interviews children/youth, prepares case histories and outlines services provided by the organization.
  • Assesses the impact on children/youth experiencing violence and their group readiness
  • Develops and facilitates support sessions for children/youth
  • Conducts individual support sessions with the children/youth and/or individual members of the family using techniques such as active listening, conict resolution and psycho-education; provide emotional support
  • Provides emotional and parenting support and referral services for parents
  • Conducts post group interview with children/youth and/or their families; recommends follow-up services where necessary and make appropriate referrals
  • Maintains related records, statistics and prepares reports as required
  • Maintains current knowledge of issues and resources related to children/youth who experience violence; provide presentations and public awareness activities about services and issues
  • Performs other related duties as required

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Access to and use of vehicle, Class 5 drivers license with clear Driver’s Abstract
  • Clear Criminal Record review
