Haida Gwaii Mentor Apprentice Program Committee


The Haida Gwaii Museum, with the Haida Gwaii Mentor Apprentice Program Committee, is looking for a part-time employee to work 10-20 hrs per week at $27.50-$30/hr (depending on experience) as the Northern Coordinator for the Haida Mentor Apprentice Program (HGMAP) focussed on Xaad kil Mentor Apprentice Teams.

Term: August 01 2020 – March 31 2021

JOB description:
The Northern Coordinator

  • lives in Gaw Tlagee (Old Massett) or Massett
  • reports to the Program Coordinator, who is directed by the volunteer HG MAP Committee
  • supports several (3-8) MAP teams: checks in with teams by phone and text, troubleshoots challenges MAP teams experience.
  • if COVID-19 restrictions lift, they will organize biweekly gatherings of the Xaad kil teams.
  • is a good communicator: uses facebook but prioritizes phone and face to face check-ins.
  • checks in with teams individually as needed, and coordinates regularly with the Program Coordinator
  • coordinates events in Gaw Tlagee (potentially: group workshops, supports December language dinner, and an end of program luncheon in March).
  • has access to a computer and internet and can work from home (can bill for internet and computer expenses).
  • has some experience with the Haida language.

SKILLS needed:

  • excellent communication skills for face to face meetings, Facebook, email and phone
  • office skills: experience with spreadsheet organizing (eg. Excel)
  • organizational skills to coordinate meetings
  • event planning experience
  • empathic, positive outlook and resilient
