Gitxsan Environmental Services (GES) is looking for an Intermediate Biologist to join our multidisciplinary team. Our organization is growing and expanding our services into various sectors across western Canada. The position is located in Hazelton BC. This is your opportunity to work in one of the most beautiful regions of British Columbia to lead environmental management and stewardship programs and be involved on projects that provide environmental, economic, cultural and social benefits throughout Northern BC.
As an Intermediate Biologist, your activities in this position will include:

  • Manage, plan and lead various projects related to wildlife monitoring, environmental monitoring, fish salvages, bird nest sweeps and amphibian salvages
  • Managing task according to approved scope of work, schedule and budget
  • Leading field programs related to sustainable management of forests, wildlife, water & other land-based resources
  • Providing mentorship and guidance to field crews
  • Communicating with supervisor, team and supporting teams at regularly scheduled meetings
  • Ensuring compliance with all environmental permits, regulatory requirements, legislation, government approvals, and project environmental protection plans
  • Completing daily reports and safety documentation

Your Capabilities and Credentials:

  • Demonstrated experience working on both terrestrial and aquatic assessment and monitoring projects
  • Ability to travel for up to two weeks at a time, on multiple trips over the field season
  • Thrives in an environment with diverse and dynamic projects, and enjoys working on multi-disciplinary scopes of work
  • Proven technical, communication, and organization skills
  • Experience working in a construction environment is strongly preferred
  • Experience driving large trucks on unpaved roads, particularly active industrial or forest service roads
  • Experience using digital data collection tools, and the ability to use iPads or iPhones is preferred
  • Ability to work in a collaborative team environment
  • Capable of working with, and providing guidance to clients and contractors
  • Able to deal with changing conditions and priorities while in the field

Education and Experience

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Biology is required.
  • Must have a Professional accreditation (i.e., P.Bio, R.P.Bio)
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a biologist in BC

Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather. Ability to lift and move items and equipment up to 50 pounds.
