HUMAN RESOURCES COORDINATOR (OLD MASSET) (Full Time)

Primary Purpose:

The Human Resources COORDINATOR provides strategic leadership to the Human Resources (HR) function of the organization. This leader translates business strategies into unit goals and objectives. This leader develops and administers policies and programs by which the organization’s staff are enabled to provide quality service to members and internal customers (other staff). This leader stays attunes to the concerns of the staff, and develops practices that provide for a safe and positive work environment.

Key Accountabilities:

Knowledge of Market and Industry

  • Maintains knowledge of the organization in terms of its strategy, business plans, as well as services and products offered to community and band members.
  • Maintains knowledge of current community activity and employment practices locally and nationally in order to identify appropriate practices that should be in place at the organization.
  • Maintains knowledge of economic factors and implications for the organization.
  • Maintains awareness of total compensation competition in the market.
  • Maintains knowledge of the working conditions and expectations of employees.

Community Engagement

  • Fosters a culture of excellence in service to community and team work among staff.
  • Fosters a professional image to community.
  • Advises internally on overcoming challenges in delivery of products and services to maximize community service.

Employee Engagement

  • Key advisor to the management team in building a positive capable team to meet the mandate of the organization.
  • Leads development of human resources practices which are cost effective and create a positive work environment.
  • Leads and contributes to a culture that maximizes employee performance and adaptability, and builds both functional intelligence (IQ) and emotional intelligence (EQ).
  • Acts as an advisor and facilitator with staff and management in addressing issues.
  • Oversees the development and implementation of all talent management processes that support the organization’s strategic direction.
  • Provides coaching to management, supervisors and employees to enhance employee performance and foster a culture consistent with the Band’s values and service philosophy.
  • Is a key advisor in building a positive work environment that is motivating to staff.
  • Selects, develops, coaches and manages staff in the HR function to ensure business unit objectives are met and evaluates the performance of the staff in the HR function.

Operational Effectiveness

  • Provides for effective functioning of the HR function and attaining stated objectives of the function.
  • Identifies process improvements and implements such within the HR function and shares internally with the management team.
  • Contributes to the setting of strategic direction.
  • Builds relationships with other organizations to gain knowledge and share experiences to benefit our own organization and assist other organizations.

Risk Management and Financial Health:

  • Identifies the inherent risks which the HR function has responsibility for and develops appropriate responses and mitigation of those risks.
  • Provides information to the Administrator and the Council to enable them to be aware of the risks and the management of those risks.
  • Maintains confidentiality over information as appropriate to the sensitivity of the information and within privacy requirements.
  • Develops relevant management level policy for the HR function and the organization wide employment practices.
  • Ensures appropriate action and adherence to policies with respect to performance management is taken throughout the organization, including discipline if required.
  • Develops and implements succession planning policies, processes and management.
  • Maintains awareness of changes to relevant legislation and identifies implications to the organization.
  • Ensures program unit operates within defined budget.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

  • Completion of post-secondary education is required.
  • Chartered Professional, Human Resources preferred
  • Knowledge and understanding of Federal and Provincial employment related legislation and regulations.
  • Understanding of the Human Resources industry is desired.

Experience:

  • Previous management experience at a senior level preferred.
  • Previous experience in developing, implementing, evaluating policy and procedures is preferred.
  • 5 years of professional human resources experience at a management level is preferred.

Skills:

  • Ability to prioritize, organize work within time constraints, under pressure and competing priorities.
  • Excellent people management skills including the ability to collaborate and delegate effectively and work in a small team environment.
  • Ability to communicate and liaise professionally with management and co-workers while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills.
  • Working knowledge, skills and experience in Microsoft Office
