Job Description

LOCATION:  Haida Gwaii and can occasionally go off island.

WAGE:  Grid 12 – As per Aboriginal Services Collective Agreement.  $20.05 increase in increments.

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position will be two-fold; including both Family Group Conferencing and Family Outreach Support Services. The incumbent will work as a member of a care team in all the communities of Haida Gwaii. The incumbent will facilitate and coordinate Family Group Conferences and provide Support Services for children, youth and parents who have come to the attention of the child welfare system.  Child(ren), family, clan and appropriate members of the child’s community are to be included in decisions affecting them.  The primary purpose is to keep children safe and in community, to prevent the occurrence of child abuse or neglect and to plan for the safety, reconnection or transition of a child and their family and community. Training is available for this position.

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

Preference will be given to applicants with a diploma, and experience in the social work field. First and foremost, we are looking for someone who is a respected problem solver and able to negotiate and mediate solutions to disputes within families and between families and government Ministries.

All candidates must possess their own vehicle which must be suitable to transport clients on occasion on Haida Gwaii.  All applicants must demonstrate flexibility and leadership abilities with an awareness of the Haida Culture and family needs.

  • Must complete a Solicitor General criminal records check
  • A driver’s abstract is required
  • This position is open to male and female applicants.
