Executive Director-Prince Rupert Aboriginal Community Services Society (Full Time)

Description

Prince Rupert Aboriginal Community Services Society is seeking an Executive Director, who will bring excellent administrative, organizational and interpersonal skills to our Society.

 Prince Rupert Aboriginal Community Services is a community based not for profit Society providing Aboriginal Restorative Justice programming, First Nations Medical Transportation, Aboriginal Headstart programming and Aboriginal Homelessness Services through a Community Advisory Board.  A newly formed Indigenous Justice Center is also co-located within the office.

The Executive Director must be able to work with limited direction and be an exceptionally organized person with strong verbal and written communication skills.  Other information regarding the position is below.

PRIME FUNCTIONS

Implement board policy and decisions

  • Act as a resource to the Board of Directors so policy decisions are made on an informed basis
  • Gather, interpret and articulate information to the Board about community trends and resources as they relate to enhancing the Board’s capacity for effective communication, decision making and long-term planning
  • Keep the Board informed of significant issues affecting the development and delivery of programs and services
  • Ensure development of the annual budgets, within the context of specific programming
  • Updating and monitoring of the Strategic plan approved by the Board
  • Maintain relationships with funding sources and prepare funding proposals
  • Ensure appropriate staffing is consistent with community member needs and is within the constraints of the organization’s physical and financial resources
  • Provide recommendations and maintain the Personnel Policy and Procedures Manual approved by the Board
  • Develop and maintain appropriate job descriptions for all staff
  • Evaluate staff

Ensure staff are appropriately compensated based on the salary grid approved by the BoardProvide guidance and advice to the Board on process issues such as establishing and interpreting terms of reference, decision-making and accountability

Maintain, acquire and dispose of physical assets

  • Ensure that facilities, furniture, and equipment are appropriate to the needs of the organization
  • Ensure proper maintenance of facilities, furniture, and equipment
  • As necessary, dispose of outdated or worn out equipment

Develop, plan, and deliver programs and services  

Monitor community needs on an ongoing basis, aware of the changing environment which programs operate inEnsure that facilities, furniture, and equipment are appropriate to the needs of the organization

Ensure that facilities, furniture, and equipment are appropriate to the needs of the organization

  • Ensure proper maintenance of facilities, furniture, and equipment
  • Update the Board Policy Manual as required
  • Oversee development and implementation of orientation for incoming Board members
  • Develop programs and services consistent with community needs
  • Develop programs and services ensuring consistency with the criteria established by funding sources and is relevant to the Vision and mission of the society
  • Prepare reports as required by the Board and other agencies as required
  • Monitor staff benefits and property insurance programs
  • Assist the Board and programs in defining and implementing terms of reference and job descriptions.On a regular basis establish statistic and qualitative feedback about the program and service delivery
  • Provide consultative service to the Board of Directors on bylaws and procedures
  • Initiate and develop relationships with a broad range of community sectors including: all levels of government, other non- profit organizations etc.
  • Undertake activities within the community that enhance the visibility of the organization
  • Represent the organization on appropriate committees

Develop and provide information about the organization’s goals, programs and services

Risk Management

  • Identify and evaluate the risks to the organization’s people (clients, staff) property, finances and image and implement measures to control risks
  • Ensure that the Board of Directors and the organization carries appropriate and adequate insurance coverage
  • A clear criminal reference check (CPIC) is a condition of employment.
  • Develop strong working relationships with all relevant organizations, staff, and Board
  • Enhancement of the organization’s image
  • Maintain complete satisfaction of the Board’s requirements
  • Knowledge of current community challenges and opportunities relating to the vision and mission of the society
  • Knowledge of human resources management

Must have a valid Driver’s License, the use of a vehicle and ability to travel

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  1. Knowledge of all federal and provincial legislation, applicable to a non-profit agency
  2. Experience in managing a non-profit agency
  3. Related Social Science Degree such as Social Work, Social Geography, or other equivalent degree, or equivalent experience
