The Employment Resource Advisor assists Clients in the WorkBC Resource Centre. You will assist clients and visitors with a consistent, professional approach and to create a welcoming environment. You will provide support, information, tools and resources to help people undertake job search, career planning, self-assessment, labour market research or other employment activities.


This role is one where you will make a difference in people’s lives every day and share in their successes! This is a part-time position. Monday to Friday from 12:00pm – 4:30 pm.


Hecate Strait Employment Development Society is a non-profit organization governed by a board of directors with a mandate to provide employment programming and training to the North Coast and Haida Gwaii. We have operated for over 20 years and have 4 locations in Prince Rupert and Haida Gwaii.

1)    Welcomes, orients and support people in Self-Serve area to our services

2)    Works with people to determine readiness and ability to look for work independently:

a.       Support clients to complete a short needs assessment and sign up for employment services

b.      Determine what services the client is eligible for

3)    Support people in the resource area to use computers, research jobs, complete their resume, apply for jobs online and other employment services

4)    Keeps community, job and training information in the centre up to date.

5)    Stays up to date on trends in resumes and cover letters, local employers hiring practices and the labour market

6)    Research’s job postings online and keeps the online and resource centre job board up to date.

7)    Books client appointments, provides appointment reminders and callouts

8)    Provides support to the Employment Advisor to update files, scan and upload documents and other items

9)    Gathers information about client visits and prepares a weekly report on the resource room use

10) Keeps the resource and training room organized and tidy

11) Reception duties such as answering the phone, taking messages, logging visits, coordinating with training to register people in the training centre

12) Other projects and duties that are assigned.

·         Minimum 1 year experience in an office environment

  • Post-secondary certificate, degree, or diploma in a relevant field preferred, but not required
  • Great communication skills and a desire to help others
