POSITION OVERVIEW
As an HSEDS Employment Advisor, you will work with local people to assist them to find work, change careers, start a business, or take training.  You will motivate those you work with to achieve long term career success.

·         Be ready to coach individuals , facilitate groups and reach out to those who need our services in the community,

·         Have a great balance of people, administrative and technical skills,

·         Understand the needs and service requirements for diverse client groups

·         Bring a passion for ongoing learning and improvement in the career development field

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1)    Long term employment and training planning with individuals seeking employment

2)    Person to person interviews to identify the needs of clients, and collaborate with them to create  a realistic and achievable employment action plan

3)    Support and refer your clients to access relevant resources and community services

4)    Maintain an expert level of knowledge about the local job market

5)    Assist your clients with one to one coaching on resumes, job search techniques, labour market information, career planning, assessment tools, workshops and other resources

6)    Determine eligibility for various financial supports, training and employment services

7)    Maintain regular contact to support, motivate, learn your clients progress and update their employment action plans

8)    Provide job sustainment services to support your clients to achieve long-term success

9)    Deliver workshops and sessions for client groups

10) Stay up-to-date with program policy and processes

11) Complete reports such as monthly clients Success Stories, measures of success, and service timelines

12) Ensure that all required documentation is in place at all stages of service to your clients

13) Work collaboratively on a team that has members in Prince Rupert and Haida Gwaii

14) Participate in organizational initiatives, events and special projects

15) Act as a champion of the program, promoting our services throughout community and networking events

16) Other related duties as assigned

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
  • A Bachelor’s degree or post-secondary certificate in a human services, or related field is preferred
  • Minimum 2 years experience providing career counseling, coaching, training or other related professional experience
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, databases and internet
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team as well as independently
  • Up-to-date with the latest job search, career exploration/labour market practices
  • Passion for helping job seekers achieve their goals
  • Current clean Criminal Record Check is a condition of employment
