Metlakatla Stewardship Society has an immediate opening for a full-time Climate Action Catalyst at our office located in Prince Rupert, British Columbia. Metlakatla is seeking a highly motivated individual who can work independently with direction from the Climate Action Coordinator. This job offers flexibility and opportunities to help coordinate and develop initiatives that support Metlakatla’s vision, mandate and efforts toward becoming more food secure and adapting to the local impacts of climate change. The expected hours of work are between 35-40 hours/week, and the contract position will end on March 31, 2021.

Responsibilities:

Your specific roles and responsibilities are as follows:

Support existing climate change, climate adaptation, and food security and sovereignty initiatives

  • Collaborate with community leaders, other First Nations communities, elders, and youth, to help develop new initiatives that will positively benefit the environment, Metlakatla and surrounding communities
  • Provide support to community engagement, zoom sessions, and working groups
  • Develop educational materials and help with online engagement in regards to climate change and food security
  • Help develop events, workshops, (COVID permitting) or webinars pertinent to climate change, food security, traditional foods, and food security and sovereignty
  • Engage with young people living on and off-reserve
  • Attend staff and other meetings as requested
  • Other duties within the scope of the position, as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Minimum Grade 12 diploma or equivalent
  • Dedicated and dependable
  • Have strong digital and virtual collaboration skills
  • You are eager to learn about climate action, food security and sovereignty and how you can make a positive impact in our community
  • Desire to learn from local experts, elders, and other community leaders
  • Are a highly organized and motivated self-starter with experience and or/strong interest in environmental issues, climate change adaptation and resiliency, Indigenous food systems, food security and sovereignty, renewable energy and environmental restoration
  • Flexible to meet changing work needs and demands and have strong attention to detail, organizational planning time management and multitasking abilities
