Choose to Move Activity Coach (Part Time)

BC Recreation and Parks Association (BCRPA) is looking for a motivated fitness leader who demonstrates a commitment to learning and professional growth, and who is eager to participate in a provincial initiative called Choose to Move. Choose to Move is an evidence-based approach to help introduce the habit of physical activity into the daily lives of older adults across British Columbia.

About BC Recreation and Parks Association

BCRPA is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to building and sustaining active healthy lifestyles and communities in BC. Since 1958, BCRPA has provided leadership, training and support, fostering the principles of accessibility and inclusiveness, to help its members meet provincial and local health and physical activity priorities.

Choose to Move Overview

BCRPA is working in partnership with the Active Aging Research Team at the Centre for Hip Health and Mobility to implement Choose to Move. Choose to Move is a 6-month evidence-based approach to help older adults introduce the habit of physical activity into their daily lives in ways that make sense for them. Choose to Move is for anyone age 65 and older that wants to become active, regardless of ability. Working with a trained activity coach, participants develop a physical activity plan customized to their needs, interests, goals, resources, and abilities. Choose to Move is just one arm of Active Aging BC, a Ministry of Health-funded initiative that provides an ‘upstream’ solution designed to maintain the health, mobility, social connectedness, and independence of seniors.
Since January 2016, BCRPA has partnered with 23 recreation departments across British Columbia to deliver Choose to Move. The preliminary findings show that participants reported feeling less lonely, more socially connected and increased their level of physical activity after participating in CTM.
