Regional Employment Bridging Program for Recent Permanent Residents

The Skills Connect for Immigrants program is seeking recent Permanent Residents living in Haida Gwaii, Prince Rupert, Port Edward, Terrace, Kitimat and Smithers who are Internationally Trained Professionals with foreign credentials and professional work experience to invest in skills training. This one year employment-bridging program provides two-thirds funding reimbursement for short-term training for new immigrants who are eligible. It also provides free employment skills training and coaching. Eligible applicants discuss their training options to come up with a number of training goals and work out an employment transition plan.

This program supports the goals of international professionals who want to transition to careers from transitional work, and is intended for foreign-trained professionals to obtain funds needed for career transitioning in to careers they have received training for. Some examples include:

  • credentials evaluation
  • licensing; memberships
  • computer skills training (MS Word, Simply Accounting)
  • employment-related certifications (WHMIS, Food Safe, Serving it Right)
  • academic upgrading
  • driver licensing
  • Language exams needed for licensing in regulated professions (IELTS, LPI)
  • First Aid Training
