Renting a Home? Buying your first home in Canada? What Newcomers Need to Know

The Settlement Resource Centre at Hecate Stait now has available a Guide for newcomers on buying a home in Canada.

The Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) has published this Guide to help Newcomers who are considering needing more information about renting, or becoming first-time home-buyers make more informed choices.

For more detailed information, please visit www.cmhc.ca/newcomers

The Guide helps you with important information about the different steps of the home-buying process. The Guide also reviews what you can afford, factors to consider when choosing the right home for you, making an offer on a house, financing your home, home inspections, and Closing Day.

The Guide offers an excellent overview of the terminology: pre-approvals, mortgage brokers, down payments, mortgage loan insurance, credit score, credit history. The Guide also provides details about mortgages.
